Thursday’s UEFA Europa League qualifier between NK Aluminij and FC Sheriff Tiraspol was a historic night in more ways than one. It was Aluminij’s first-ever European home match, played at the iconic Ljudski vrt in Maribor, and behind the scenes it marked the first major European test of the Ticklio 2.0 ecosystem, following its premiere in Ajdovščina with ND Primorje. While the result on the pitch didn’t go Aluminij’s way, the club’s European story continues in the UEFA Conference League and the ticketing operation behind it passed its test without a single hiccup.
The Challenge
A European qualifier brings a level of complexity that goes far beyond a regular league fixture. With Aluminij’s home ground in Kidričevo not meeting UEFA requirements, the match was moved to Ljudski vrt, a stadium Ticklio had never operated before. On top of that, European fixtures come with stricter access control and operational standards than domestic matchdays, and this was the very first time the new platform generation had to prove itself in a high-stakes UEFA environment. A new venue, a new system, and no room for error.

Ticklio’s Tailored Solution
In the days before the match, Ticklio’s team fully mapped Ljudski vrt, sectors, entrances, and flows, adding one of Slovenia’s most recognizable stadiums to the platform’s venue portfolio. For the matchday itself, Ticklio delivered:
-
- Structured sector-based sales with digital and thermal tickets and QR code validation
- Mobile check-in at all entry points, a fast, reliable validation without any fixed turnstile infrastructure
- Real-time sales and attendance overview, with on-site support from the Ticklio team throughout
All of it running on Ticklio 2.0, the new, connected environment that brings sales, validation, and supporter data together in one platform.
The Results
The night confirmed exactly what Ticklio 2.0 was built for. Around 2,000 fans made their way to Ljudski vrt, a strong turnout for a club of Aluminij’s size, and another sign that support for the Kidričevo side keeps growing season after season. When buying a ticket and entering the stadium is this simple, showing up becomes the easy part. Fans entered quickly and without congestion across all sectors, and the system passed its first European test without a single technical issue, from online sales to the final scan at the gates. Just as importantly, Ljudski vrt is now fully mapped and operational within Ticklio, ready for any future event at the venue.
This wasn’t Ticklio’s first European night, as the platform already proved itself at FC Koper’s sold-out UEFA Conference League clash at Bonifika, but it was the first with the full Ticklio 2.0 environment behind it.

The Road Continues
On the pitch, Sheriff Tiraspol edged the tie with a narrow 1–0 aggregate win, but Aluminij’s first European chapter is far from over. As outlined when three Ticklio clubs began their European journey, the club now continues its campaign in the UEFA Conference League, where FC Dinamo City of Albania awaits in the second qualifying round. And when the next European night comes, the infrastructure behind it will be ready with tickets available through the official NK Aluminij ticketing platform.
Aluminij won’t be alone on the European stage. The second qualifying round opponents are now confirmed for all three Ticklio clubs: NK Bravo will host KF Shkëndija of North Macedonia in the first leg at Stožice, while FC Koper takes on NSÍ Runavík of the Faroe Islands, who edged past Ħamrun Spartans to set up the tie. Koper travels first on 23 July, before the return leg at Bonifika on 30 July.
